Manteca, California

Day 6 - 9:  Wednesday – Sunday, January 23 – 27, 2019     Turtle Beach RV Resort, Manteca, CA

We headed south to meet our friends Jan and Dwayne Foley at Turtle Beach on the San Joaquin River.  We walked around the campground a bit, enjoying the water birds in the waters that surround this place.  We went for a bike ride along the levees near the campground and along the river.  Thursday, we put in the kayaks and paddled upriver, enjoying the slanting light in the late afternoon, travel time back downriver being about half of the upstream time!  Jim used his drone a little, not seeing any rules against it!

One area of the poison oak Jim got working on the downed tree on my driveway!

Paddling back took half as long!  Slanting afternoon light.

Reflecting on reflections

Friday afternoon my brother Craig and his wife Liz came to visit us.  We drove up to the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge, seeing lots of Black-Necked Stilts and Sandhill Cranes!  We walked through the riparian area on trails there, seeing white egrets of various sizes and hawks we thought might be Red-Tailed.  Jim fixed his famous pork chops for dinner, and we had a big skillet of vegetable stir fry.  Saturday we drove to the Lathrop Target and rode our bikes through River Islands development and along the river path.  Gravel parts were not too rough.

Paved trail soon to become gravel, a great ride!

Here comes Jan, biking on the levee.

She made it back!  Yay!
