Day 19, 20: Friday, Saturday, February 2, 3, Kern River
County Park, Bakersfield, CA
We
made our way west from Paso Robles, coming across on 46 to Lost Hills, then
Oildale, then down to one of our favorite parks. When we arrived, we went for a walk along the
Kern River and around Ming Lake, about 3 miles.
This seems to be a drought year, and the river is much lower than it was
when we were here last year in March.
Saturday morning, we went shopping, bought exciting things like a
garbage can and recycle bin and towel rack, then got a big batch of groceries. In the afternoon, we rode our bikes on a loop
from the campground, with a paved trail that goes out through the hills, then
back on the Alfred Harrell Highway. We
rode 17 miles, with some nice hills. Pot
roast for dinner was ready when we got back!
Sunday morning, we walked on a trail along the river east of Lake Ming,
then got on the road headed for Tehachapi Pass.
